Epiretinal Membrane / Macular Pucker

What is Epiretinal Membrane?

Epiretinal Membrane, also known as a ‘Macular Pucker,’ occurs when scar tissue ‘wrinkles’ over the surface of the central Retina (Macula), leading to distorted and blurred central vision. Aging is the most common cause of Macular Pucker.

  • It is a normal process of ‘growing up’, but can be accelerated after trauma, inflammation, or eye surgery.
  • The main symptom of Epiretinal Membrane is that straight lines will appear wavy.
  • Our goal is to maximize your vision and improve your quality of life.
